Snowshoeing on the Iron Trail

The Iron Trail region is a great snowshoeing getaway! Giants Ridge Golf & Ski Resort offers three kilometers of snowshoe trails through the Superior National Forest. Snowshoe rental is available on site.

All Wildlife Management Areas are open for snowshoeing in the winter and provide great wildlife sighting possibilities. The Superior National Forest Scenic Byway which connects Silver Bay (on Lake Superior’s North Shore) to Hoyt Lakes (on the Iron Trail) offers endless opportunities of wilderness snowshoeing through the Superior National Forest along rivers, lakes, and streams.

There’s nothing more serene than snowshoeing through our northern woods after a fresh snowfall. All your cares will disappear as you watch the forest come alive with wildlife and discover virgin territory that is almost the same as when the voyageurs and fur trappers roamed the area more than 150 years ago. Many of our communities offer snowshoe rentals for your convenience.

Come discover why northeastern Minnesota’s Iron Trail is “A Great Way to Getaway!”
