Carey Lake Recreation Area

This trail’s appeal is it closeness to the city – it is located only 3-1/2 miles away from the City of Hibbing. Carey Lake is a 1,100-acre park with over 22km of ski trails starting at the parking area by the beach. Some of these trails are also used for hiking in the summer and fall. Trail has beautiful fall foliage in September and October. The trail runs through primarily lowlands and spruce box, with about a third of the trails located on high land. The trail loops with views of the lake, bogs, jack pine stands and lowlands. Carey Lake offers 10 miles of groomed trails for the traditional classic skier and six miles of trails for the skate skier. Some of the trails are lit at night for moonlight skiing, which makes for a memorable skiing experience. Ski and snowshoe rentals are available at the Hibbing Parks and Recreation department at 218-263-8851.
