Hibbing

Home of Bob Dylan

The largest city on the Iron Trail is a community steeped in mining tradition.  Hibbing offers stunning panorama of the world’s largest open pit mine and serves as a venue for top-rated local productions and musicals.  The surrounding countryside is a playground for beach lovers, water recreationalists and snowmobilers, alike.

Local eateries offer friendly dining and serve up hot wings, pizza, steaks and even authentic Iron Range dishes.

Hibbing is the birthplace of Greyhound Bus Lines and is the childhood home of famous athletes Kevin McHale and Roger Maras, former Minnesota governor Rudy Perpich and world-famous musical artists, Robert Zimmerman (also known as Bob Dylan).  You can drive by teh modest two-story Zimmerman home on Seventh Avenue (recently renamed “Dylan Drive”), that is a testament to Dylan’s Iron Range roots.  Visit the Hibbing Public Library and local eatery, where collections of early Dylan memorabilia are displayed.  Each May, residents join visitors from around the world to celebrate Dylan’s birthday at Hibbing’s annual “Dylan Days” festival.

Hibbing has plenty more to see, like the historic Hibbing High School and the Hull Rust-Mahoning Mine – the largest open pit iron ore mine in the world – truly an amazing sight.
Explore the universe on the BIG screen at the Paulucci Space Theatre, or visit the Greyhound Bus Museum, which traces its history with hundreds of artifacts, memorabilia and seven historic buses.

Whatever the season may be, you’ll find a celebration of life happening in Hibbing.
