Summer opens to the call of the loon joined by golden-winged warblers, sharptail grouse, Conneticut warblers, black-backed woodpeckers, gray jays and wide variety of colorful birds. There are more than 175 bird species in this region, including rare snowy owls and great gray owls. Autumn on the Iron Range hailes the beginning of a spectacular change in the landscape, when quaking aspen leaves turn a bright yellow and maple and ash tees are aflame with shades of red and orange. All this is a stunning contract to thousands of evergreens and the endless blue sky. View this gorgeous scenery from overhead, by foot, on horseback, from the deck of a pontoon or in your vehicle. Some sights, like the Aurora Borealis, need to be seen to be appreciated. Explore the Superior National Forest, one of the country's few remaining boreal forests. Dozens of picnic areas, trails, parks and more are located throughout the region. The Iron Range is the perfect getaway for viewing wildlife, northern lights and towering pines. |
